Projects, events and news from the University of Cambridge Museums
Exciting times are afoot – or ‘a-fin’ – for the Museum of Zoology this month.
Exactly 150 years after its arrival on these shores, we’re launching a ‘whale weekend’ to celebrate our magnificent Finback whale skeleton.
Saturday 14 November
Ocean Song Project Finale
This is the final workshop in a series of 20 in this year-long, Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England supported project. It is also the last chance for people to add their voice to the soundscape installation being created to accompany the whale skeleton in the new Whale Hall.
Led by the aforementioned audio ace Chris Watson and community choir leader Rowena Whitehead, you’ll explore the amazing world of sound that exists beneath the ocean waves and experiment with your own voices to help create this unique tapestry of sound. No singing experience necessary.
Suitable for 8yrs + Children must be accompanied by an adult.

We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come to one or both of these events. Public support for our famous Cambridge landmark and the Museum is essential to keep it here, inspiring awe and increasing environmental awareness for generations to come.
Our public appeal to #raisethewhale and raise funds for the redevelopment of the Museum is ongoing. Donations can be made here: campaign.cam.ac.uk/giving/zoology
